Artist Statement

We immerse ourselves in movies, right? That’s why movies are made, creating a universe, story,
character, a setting, something that grabs your attention and becomes your next target of your
hyper fixation. That always happens to me whenever I'm watching films, and you can tell by
how much I start watching “16 things you’ve missed in...”, looking at Instagram edits, or simply
just started looking at the behind-the-scenes production of a movie. It’s enchanting how
something so simple as a film can make people feel pure emotions from the first time they watch
it, the movie isn’t real, so why does it make such an impact on an audience? My films have
mostly been influenced by the genres and/or aesthetics that I have mostly been attracted to while
growing up.
While growing up, my fascination towards film has been how much action I experience
throughout the movie but now as I’m developing as a filmmaker, my inspirations have shifted into
how a film has created its own world and how it showcases that to the audience. My main
influence has been the Marvel Cinematic Universe throughout the years of having a connection
between the movies, even if they came out years apart. It’s the subtle phrases, words, and/or
props that I see that gets me excited and start nerding out to my dad who is next to me in the
theater. Films that have built their own unique universe have influenced my thinking whenever I
jump to an idea about a fictional story. I tend to think of crazy ideas, and they end up being
simplified, but that doesn’t stop my creative drive of what I want to experiment with in the
future. I want to be able to express how creative the mind can be when creating stories and
worlds that bring excitement, like the Legend, Stan Lee has created a universe that has been
capturing people's hearts for over a decade.

“I suppose I have come to realize that entertainment is not easily dismissed. Beyond the meaning
(Of a work of art), it is important to people. Without it, lives can be dull.”
- Stan Lee

Creative ideas always form from inspiration from all forms of media, primarily other
films and video games. I have yet to develop my own niche of filmmaking, so I try to explore

different ideas and plots from genres that I personally favor like horror, action, parody, and sci-
fi. I act like a sponge, soaking up different ideas, aesthetics, settings, plots from sources that I’ve

recently consumed. Currently, I have a project in mind that is a brief murder mystery that acts
like a trailer for something bigger with the ending of it coming from inspiration from the
decision-based, horror game series The Dark Pictures Anthology. Another project that I keep
writing down is based on the Netflix Korean drama The Silent Sea, a post-apocalyptic science
fiction mystery about a specialized group being sent on a mission with limited intel. I like to gain
my own ideas for films based on certain situations, settings, character traits, etc. while putting
my own flair to them, almost like a trendy director in a way.
